After completing their MBBS, doctors in India can pursue the National Board of Anaesthesiology Diplomate. This is a pg-level course. This postgraduate course lasts 3 years and focuses on Anaesthesia concepts such as General Anaesthesia and Sedation. It addresses the pain relief and sensation in the brains of surgical patients before, during, and after surgery.

This course is offered through the NEET PG Entrance exam, administered by the National Board of Examinations. After that, counseling based on the scores of the exam taken by DGHS/MCC/State Authorities takes place.

The DNB (Anaesthesia) fee at accredited hospitals/institutes is Rs. 1,25,000 to 2,50,000 3,15,000 per annum.

What is DNB in Anaesthesiology?

DNB is equivalent to an MD/MS/DM/MCh degree awarded in super specialties, medical and surgical. In the Indian Medical Council Act 1956, the first schedule includes the list of qualifications that the Board has recognized in various super specialties and broad areas.

The Diplomate of National Board broad-specialty and super-specialty qualifications are equivalent when granted in a hospital with attached hospitals. The National Board of Examinations will recognize a hospital with five hundred or more beds as equivalent to the postgraduate and super-specialty qualifications under the Act. To be equivalent to teaching, however, it is necessary to have a minimum of 1-year senior residency at a medical college.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for DNB Anaesthesiology is a set of rules or minimum prerequisites that applicants must meet to be eligible for admission.

• Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Biology (MBBS) from any college/university recognized by the MCI Medical Council of India, now NMC.
• Candidates must have completed a one-year compulsory rotating internship in a teaching or other college recognized by the Medical Council of India, now NMC.
• To be eligible for admission, the candidate must have been registered as a permanent patient with any State Medical Council.
• The Medical Council of India (now NMC) will set the dates of recognition for MBBS Degree courses and compulsory rotatory internships for medical colleges in India.
• Candidates who have passed the final exam, leading to the awarding of a PG degree (MD/MS) from an Indian University that is recognized under the provisions of the 2019 National Medical Commission Act (NMC Act). Moreover, the first schedule (IMC Act) can apply for the DNB Final Examination in the same broad specialty.
