Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an exam conducted by the National Law Universities (NLUs). Candidates that have decided to study Law and Order have to qualify this exam and then they will be eligible for taking admission for courses like BA LLB, BBA LLB, BSc LLB and other LLM programs. The exam is conducted over the offline medium and consists of 200 objective-type questions. Qualifying CLAT requires a strategic approach towards the preparation for different sequences. This directly increases the possibility of scoring better marks even if it’s a tough paper.
CLAT Preparation Advice
- Syllabus allocation: Every subject is to be allocated in a way so that each of them has the sufficient amount of time to be focused with. The candidates have to create a chart or timetable and further decide how much time is required for Mathematics and in case of Logical Reasoning whether it is different.
- Legal Aptitude: In terms of this subject it is at times judged mistakenly since candidates assume this is similar to what is taught in school. It is different from that and thus one should understand that they have to know the basics first and then reach further for the details. However, the exam is for a law course and thus a candidate is not expected to know in depth about each of these but to have the basic knowledge of the same.
- Current Affairs: This section is based upon one’s general awareness and cannot be competed with by just studying a book or two. One has to be aware of what is happening, happened and probably going to happen in the future in terms of law, literature and science.
Syllabus Wise Distribution
The CLAT exam consists of sections- English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Elementary Maths, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning
- English: Candidates shouldn’t be over-confident with this subject since it can be quite tricky. It is a mix of Reading Comprehension, Synonyms, Prepositions, Idioms and Phrases, Para Jumbles, Foreign Maxims and Spellings. So, it should be practiced and looked upon carefully.
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs: As we have mentioned above as well, the basic awareness about the happenings around us is necessary for this exam. It comprises of Static GK, Current Affairs, Geography, Personalities, Special Days and Current Legal News. One should be up to-date with everything in order to have better accessibility.
- Elementary Maths: This section would consist of Profit and Loss, Percentages, Time and Distance, Ratio and Proportion, Simple and Compound Interest, Linear and Quadratic Equations, Geometry and Mensuration. Testing the candidate’s aptitude is the goal here.
- Legal Aptitude: This paper would be checking a candidates approach and interest towards Law and Order. This comprises of Constitution, Legal Principles, Family Law, Corporate Law, Criminal Law, Torts, Assertion Reason and IPR.
- Logical Reasoning: The last segment tests the logical aptitude and strengthens the decision making abilities. It consists of Number Series, Syllogisms, Odd One Out, Statement, Assumption and Conclusion, Blood Relations, Logical Deductions, Arrangements, Logical Relationships, Critical Reasoning and Statement and Arguments.
