Biomedical Engineering is the amalgamation of engineering principles and medical procedures in order to create solutions for the healthcare. This essentially involves collaborating with doctors and medical researchers to develop medical equipments and devices as well as computer systems and software solutions related to the field.

Biomedical Engineering is one of the four departments in the School of Bioengineering, which is housed in a separate seven storey building of area 150,000 square feet with classrooms, faculty
rooms, research and teaching laboratories. Established in 2004, with active clinical partnership in association with SRM Medical College and Research Institute, Kattankulathur, over the years, the department has actively been a part of diversified research and teaching, becoming one of the best institutions for the programme in the country.
