DM Neurology (Doctor of Medicine in Neurology) program helps students learn how to diagnose illnesses and disorders related to the nervous system of living beings. It is a doctorate-level program. Students can select this specialization field after completing their MBBS degree from any acknowledged university. 

The duration of this program is 3 years. Admission to the Neurology program is given based on the marks secured in the entrance tests such as AIIMS-PG, NEET-PG, etc., conducted nationally. Some colleges also conduct their entrance exams for admission to DM Neurology Courses. 

MD Neurology is a full-time course, and the syllabus is divided semester-wise. Many eminent universities in India and abroad offer DM neurology degrees, such as AIIMS, Amrita Medical College, and Gandhi Medical College. The average program fee is around 2,00,000 INR. There are ample job chances in India after DM in Neurology, neuro physicians, such as neurologists, consultants, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must Post-graduation (MD) from an institute recognized by the (MCI) Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils.
  • The post-graduation level has a minimum aggregate mark of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
  • 1-year compulsory rotating internship.
  • Preferably, at least 12 months of professional experience, as most reputed institutes prefer candidates with work experience.

Admission Process

Generally, in most colleges and institutes offering the program, admission is provided based on the student's performance in a practical entrance exam, such as NEET PG, conducted at the national level, followed by a subsequent round of counseling.

The round of counseling involves two additional rounds of Group Discussion and Personal Interviews, wherein the candidate's general aptitude for the course is examined. The institute subsequently releases and issues a merit list, allocating available seats to the qualifying candidates.
