What is DM pediatric oncology?
DM in Pediatric Oncology is a super specialty level program for doctors in India that they do after completing their postgraduate medical degree course. This super specialty course lasts 3 years and concentrates on the study of cancer in infants, children, and adolescents.
The course is a full-time program pursued at various recognized medical colleges nationwide. Some top medical colleges offering this program include- Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology- Bangalore, Regional Cancer Centre- Thiruvananthapuram, Government Medical College- Aurangabad, and more.
Admission to this course is made through the NEET-SS Entrance exam held by the National Board of Examinations, followed by counseling based on the exam marks that DGHS/MCC/State Authorities conduct.
The fee for following DM Pediatric Oncology varies from college to college and may range from Rs. 7000 to Rs. 15,00,000 per annum.
After completion of their respective program, doctors can join the job market or pursue certificate courses and Fellowship programs recognized by NMC and NBE. Candidates can take decent jobs as Senior residents, Consultants, etc., with an approximate salary range of Rs. 5,00,000 to Rs. 20,00,000 per year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a pg Medical Degree (MD/MS/DNB) from any college/university acknowledged by the MCI (Now NMC)/NBE.
- The candidate must have permanent registration with any State Medical Council to be suitable for admission.
- The medical institute's recognition cut-off dates for the PG programs shall be as prescribed by the Medical Council of India (now NMC).
Admission Procedure

- The NEET-SS course is a national-level master's level examination held by the NBE for admission to DM/MCh/DrNB Programs.
- Qualifying Criteria-Students placed at the 50th percentile or above shall be announced qualified in the NEET-SS in their respective specialty.
The following Medical institutions are not covered under centralized admissions for DM/MCh courses through NEET-SS:
- AIIMS, New Delhi and other AIIMS
- PGIMER, Chandigarh
- JIPMER, Puducherry
- NIMHANS, Bengaluru
- Students from all eligible feeder specialty subjects shall be needed to appear in the question paper of the respective group if they are willing to choose a super specialty program in any of the super specialty programs covered in that group.
- A student can opt for appearing in the question papers of as many groups for which his/her PG specialty qualification is a suitable feeder qualification.
- On appearing in the question paper of a group and qualifying for the examination, a student shall be eligible to exercise his/her choice in counseling for only those super specialty subjects included in the said group for which he/she has broad specialization Eligible feeders qualification.
