Who is eligible for DM Cardiac Anesthesia?

DM in Cardiac Anaesthesia is a super specialty level course for doctors in India that they do after completing their postgraduate medical degree course. This super specialty course lasts 3 years, and it focuses on the study of structural and functional aspects of the heart and the pathophysiology and consequences of extracorporeal circulation.

The course is a full-time program pursued at various recognized medical colleges nationwide. Some top medical colleges offering this program include Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, and more.

Admission to this course is made through the NEET-SS Entrance exam held by the National Board of Examinations, pursued by counseling based on the exam scores that DGHS/MCC/State Authorities conduct.

The fee for pursuing DM (Cardiac Anaesthesia) varies from college to college and may range from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 20,00,000 per year.

After completion of their respective program, doctors can join the job market or pursue certificate programs and Fellowship programs acknowledged by NMC and NBE. Students can take decent jobs as Senior residents, Consultants, etc., with an approximate salary range of Rs.3 lakhs to Rs. 48 lakhs per year, depending upon their expertise.

Eligibility Criteria

The NBE defines the feeder qualification for DM in Cardiac Anaesthesia and is subject to changes in the NBE.

  • The feeder credentials mentioned here are as of 2022.

  • To qualify for admission, the candidate must have registered permanently with any State Medical Council (SMC).
  • Medical College recognition cut-off dates for PG degree courses will be set by the Medical Council of India (now NMC).

 

Admission Process

  • National Eligibility Entrance Test for Super specialty programs, is a national-level master's level examination held by the NBE for admission to DM/MCh/DrNB Programs.
  • Qualifying Criteria- Candidates in the 50th percentile or above will be declared qualified in NEET-SS in their respective specialty.

Following Medical Institutes are not covered under Centralized Admission for DM/MCh Programs through NEET-SS

  1.  AIIMS, New Delhi, and other AIIMS
  2. PGIMER, Chandigarh
  3. JIPMER, Puducherry
  4. NIMHANS, Bengaluru

  • Candidates of all eligible feeder specialty subjects will be needed to appear in the question paper of the respective group if they are willing to choose super specialty courses in any of the super specialty programs covered in that group.
  • A student can choose to appear in as many groups of question papers for which his/her PG specialization qualification is an eligible feeder qualification.
  • On appearing in the question paper of a group and qualifying for the examination, a candidate shall be eligible to exercise his/her choice in counseling only for those super specialty subjects included in the said group for which he/she has broad specialization Eligible Feeders qualification.
