Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Product Design is an established 4-year undergraduate degree program comprising eight semesters offered by deemed colleges and Universities in India. However, a few design colleges also provide a 5-year B.Des course.
The Bachelor in Product Design course can be undertaken on both a full-time and part-time basis as required by the learners.
In order to undertake the Product Design course, you should have passed your Class XII exam with an aggregate of 50% marks. Proficiency in English communication skills is desirable for undergoing the course.
Admissions are done through the entrance exam; the average fee is INR 45,000-1,35,000.

Entrance Exams for Product Design
The admission process for product designing courses is usually based on merit in most colleges in India. However, some institutes or colleges require the candidates to clear specific entrance exams to grant admission into their colleges. Some of the most popular entrance exams for a product design course in UG and PG levels are below.
UCEED- Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination of Design (UCEED) is a National level entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay. The exam is conducted to grant admissions into the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programs offered by colleges accepting UCEED scores. The examination lasts three hours and is conducted only once a year.
AIEED- All India Entrance Exam for Design (AIEED) is an entrance examination to grant admissions into undergraduate and post-graduate course degrees in various design programs that Arch College of Design and Business offers. Arch College of Design and Business conducts the exam at the university level. The entrance exam comprises the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and the Creative Aptitude Test (CAT). It is conducted online and is conducted only once a year.
CEED- Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay), to grant admissions into a post-graduate degree program in design courses. It is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted once every year. The exam is conducted online, and the duration is three hours.
BDes Product Design: Eligibility Criteria
- Students completing 10+2 or any qualifying equivalent exam can be eligible to apply for the UG course.
- The class 12th can be of any stream with a minimum of 50% marks obtained in the exam.
- The minimum age limit for admission to the B.Des. UG Course is 19/20 years, as specified in the admission procedure
- One can also pursue B.Des if he has completed a 3-year diploma course in design validated by AICTE/UGC.
Admission Process
A student keen to be admitted to B.Des in Product Design must apply online for the colleges in which he desires to take admission for the course. A personal interview round follows the entrance into some premiere colleges/Universities.
- The doors for admission to the B.Des in Product Design are now open for the aspirants through an entrance exam taken separately by the Design Institutions.
- In some deemed Colleges/Universities, admission may also be considered based on the merit obtained in the qualifying exam (10+ 2)
