BRIDGE TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

This course encompasses providing students with the opportunity through a clinical preceptorship (focused patient care experience) in a health care setting and through faculty seminars to gain knowledge and skills in order to facilitate the transition from the role of a student to an entry level practicing nurse. Topics and concepts covered include discussions on current issues and trends in health care, the nurse in leadership and management role, issues relating to professional practice and working with inter-professional teams (role expectations and responsibilities), effective communications, evidence-based knowledge, team-based care, mentoring and coaching, retention and recruitment, conflict resolution, death and grief, and transition into the work place as a nurse.
