The MBBS course has nine semesters, and the Medical Council of India (MCI) is the country's only accreditation body for MBBS courses. Pursuing MBBS is challenging, as students are tested at every stage of becoming a doctor.

Eligibility Criteria

In India, the admission process for MBBS typically involves clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and participating in the counseling process for admission to various medical colleges. The eligibility criteria for NEET-UG include passing 10+2 or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects and assuring a minimum of 50% scores in aggregate in the qualifying examination.

 

  • Academic qualifications: To secure MBBS admission in India, aspirants must have passed class 12 from a recognized board.
  • Subjects studied: To pursue an MBBS course, students should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in classes 11 and 12.
  • Minimum marks required: For MBBS admission in India, candidates must score at least 50% in the qualifying examination. For SC, ST, and OBC category aspirants, the minimum marks required for MBBS admission are 40%.
  •  Age: The upper age limit for NEET-UG is 25 years for general category candidates, and Aspirants should have attained the minimum age of 17 years to get admission to MBBS in India.

 

Admission Process

After qualifying for the NEET-UG exam, the students must be counseled for admission to various medical colleges. The counseling process involves

  • filling up an online application form,
  • selecting the colleges and courses of your choice, and
  • attending the counseling sessions for seat allotment.

Course Curriculum

The MBBS curriculum includes subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and more. The course also includes practical training, clinical rotations, and internships to provide hands-on experience in medicine.

 

Career Prospects

After completing the MBBS course, the student can pursue higher studies like MD/MS, DM/MCh, or other postgraduate diploma courses in various specializations. You can also work as a general practitioner, medical officer, or specialist in hospitals, clinics, research centers, government agencies, or private practice.
