The hunt for admissions to America's most coveted engineering schools commences. A few days back, students across the nation took part in the IIT-JEE examinations. While IITs certainly are among the top engineering schools in India however, others also excel in the academic and infrastructure environments. The IT magazine Dataquest recently published the list of India's most prestigious engineering institutions.

 

Based on an annual survey of top engineering institutions, the list evaluates their performance on various criteria such as the campus's location, infrastructure, and academic environments. While IITs, as usual, remain the top choice on the rankings, it offers some surprising results. These are the top engineering colleges.

 

No. 1 IIT Mumbai

 

In 1958, IIT Mumbai was established with help from UNESCO and the former Soviet Union; IIT Mumbai is ranked at the number. 1 in the list of the top engineering schools of 2011. However, the school earns the no. 2 position in the placement-wise category, with the result being 28.6 out of 40.

 

The report quotes IIT Mumbai's placement report that says, "Amongst positive vibes about employment growth and economic recovery, IIT Bombay entered its placement season with expectations of high quality in the 2010-2011 season. About 250 companies participated in the placement on campus, and more than 950 jobs were provided through pre-placement and on-campus opportunities."

 

According to DQ, in its research and industry-institute collaboration, IIT-B has a significant role to play. As per the study, IIT-B is currently working on research projects specific to a particular country alongside the industry. The institute has also partnered with IBM to develop the Open Collaboration Research (OCR) project.

 

IIT Bombay also scores high in academics and infrastructure. It also ranks top in funding for alumni. The college offers a wide range of programs in engineering and design, pure sciences, management, and humanities.

 

No. 2 IIT Madras


 

At the top of the list at. Second on the rankings of top engineering colleges in 2011 is IIT Madras, jumping two places over its rankings from 2010. In the ranking of placement IIT Madras scores 28.6 out of 40.

 

In the DQ study, IIT Madras did an impressive climb to the No. 3 in the rankings category, compared to No. 11 the year before.

 

For the interface-wise rankings of the industry, the college landed at the No. 2 position with a score at 3.7 five out of 5. which was followed by the National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal.

 

Based on DQ research, IIT Madras scores excellent on collaborations between industry and academia. Concerning the academic environment, IIT Madras holds second spot, followed by IIT Kharagpur. The college ranked No.2 place, just behind IIT-Bombay on the subject of infrastructure.

 

No. 3 IIT Delhi


 

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, is ranked No.3 and has slipped one position from its 2010 ranking. In terms of placement, it is in the no. 6 position with an average of 25.9 on an average of 40.

 

It is third place in terms of the academic environment infrastructure, industrial interface, and academic environment.

 

IIT Delhi and other IITs are most well-known for their undergraduate degree program, which encompasses its Bachelor of Technology program, the dual-degree Bachelor-cum Master of Technology program, and an Integrated Master of Technology Programme.

 

No. 4 IIT Kharagpur


 

India's top engineering schools is IIT Kharagpur, dropping one place from its position in 2010. The school scores 25.3 from 40 points on placement, which places it at No. 7. The college, incidentally, was ranked No. 2 in the category of placement in 2010 with a mark in the range of 30.2 from 40.

No. 5 International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad


 

At the top of the list at. Five on this list are IIIT, Hyderabad, in 2010. It is the top institute based on placement, with an average scoring of 30 (out of 40). The previous year (2010), the institute was awarded an overall rating of 29.7 (out of 40) in the placement parameters at no. 3.

 

The school needs to pick up its boots on the infrastructure. It was ranked as No. 10 in the category of infrastructure and had a score of 5.8 on a scale of 10. In the academic environment section, The institute is ranked 8th place with a score that is 10.8 (out of 20).

 

International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad is an independent institute established in 1998 with the help of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

 

No. 6 Birla Institute for Technology and Science Pilani

 

BITS, Pilani is next on the top of 2011's engineering colleges list. With a rank of no. 6, the institution has moved up three spots from its ranking in 2010. It was ranked No.8 in the ranking parameter of placement. The college scored 25 out of 40.

 

Based within Pilani, Rajasthan, BITS also has Goa and Hyderabad in India and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. There is also an extension center located in Bangalore.

 

No. 7 Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati


 

Seventh best engineering school on DQ's Year list for 2011 The college is Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. It was ranked as the No. 10 in the ranking parameter. The school scores of 24.3 out of 40.

 

In the field of infrastructure, which is the college's fourth position, it is 6.8 per 10. For the academic environment, the school is in the top 10 rankings at no. 7, with a score of 10.4 on a scale of 20.

 

IIT Guwahati is officially recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

 

No. 8 Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi


 

The number. 8 is the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The institution has dropped one spot from its 2010 ranking.

 

The school doesn't make it into the top 10 rankings in infrastructure and placement categories. In the academic environment, the institution ranks fifth with a score of 10.9 on an average of 20.

 

It was founded in 1919 in Varanasi IT-BHU comprises 13 departments and three inter-disciplinary schools.

 

No.9 National Institute of Technology, Karnataka


 

The number 9 spot is National Institute of Technology, Karnataka by one place from its ranking in 2010. Although the college can't find any of the top 10 rankings in the place-making, it is ranked the number. Nine in the infrastructure category with an average in the range of 5.0 from 10.

 

In July 1960, it was established in a joint venture of government officials from the Karnataka Government and the Central government under Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal.


 

No. 10 Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi. 

The institute is part of the aegis of the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi. Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology is ranked as not. 5 in the placement segment with a score in the range of 26.1 on a scale of.

 

However, the school isn't in the top 10 academic and infrastructure categories list.

 

In addition to the undergraduate (BE) degree courses for engineering courses, NSIT also offers post-graduate (MTech) courses across various engineering disciplines.
