In 1994, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA started to offer Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. The UPHSD opened these courses in order to become an active player in the development of the Filipino youth, expanding the arrays of opportunities in terms of employment, as the shipping industry was in dire need of well-trained seafarers in the national and international arena.  Indeed, there has been a dearth of competent seafarers, as the Philippines continuously assumes leadership in the supply of competent seafarers with its current thirty-five percent share in the total number of seafarers in the world.  In its endeavor to help the country and the Filipino youth, the University maintains modern and state of the art education and training equipment for the said maritime courses.  The UPHSD has indeed invested heavily in both human resources and facility development to show its commitment towards its intentions.
