The Department of Mining Engineering was established at NIT Jalandhar in the Year 2013 by then Director, Professor S. K Das, due the growing need of technically qualified mining engineers and the lack of mining departments among the seven states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi and Utrakhand. The department currently offers undergraduate programme and the course curriculum has been designed catering to the existing and emerging needs of the industries in this discipline.
