M.Tech is a two-year postgraduate program in technology. For two years of study, participants gain extraordinary knowledge of technology. M.Tech improves the candidate's capabilities and makes them a specialist in a specific field or subject. To be admitted to the M.Tech program, students must pass entrance tests. M.Tech is generally divided into two types which are part-time and full-time. While most M.Tech acceptances are made through the GATE test, some institutions also offer their entrance test or an interview.

The advantages of M.Tech

  • The pursuit of an M.Tech degree following B. Tech provides ample time to develop deep technical expertise in the field and gain more control over it.
  • The M.Tech degree can enhance one's professional credentials and help build an excellent professional and social network to get the best job opportunities.
  • There are opportunities to change into management positions as you gain more expertise in technology.

Types of M.Tech

Master of Technology can be described as a postgraduate qualification available after completing B.Tech. Candidates may choose to pursue a regular M.Tech or Part-time M.Tech.

M. Tech Eligibility

There is a ferocious race for the few spots available at the best universities in the country; the institutions have specific requirements and conditions to disqualify students who are not competent enough to be engineers or do not have the required skills. So that the most talented and most deserving students are granted admission to engineering institutions to pursue their Masters of Technology, it is required that all applicants satisfy the criteria for eligibility set by the authority. Candidates who are not eligible will not be granted admission. Candidates should note that requirements for eligibility may differ from one institute to another.

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
  • Have passed the entrance test.
  • The candidates who completed the five-year program and earned a Master of Science degree are qualified to participate in this Master of Technology program.

Qualification Criteria to be eligible for M.Tech Part-Time Program

  • Candidates must complete the B.Techor B.E program with at least 55 percent.
  • A minimum work experience of two years from a recognized firm/company/industry or research/governmental organization in the respective field.

Candidates should check the eligibility requirements for each institute prior to applying to be admitted.

M.Tech Admissions Process:

Most institutes provide admission based on students' performance in the GATE examination. However, numerous institutes have their entrance examination. Candidates who want to be admitted into the M.Tech program should know the entrance test that the institution recognizes. The admission process typically includes the steps below:

  • Application form filling To appear for the entrance test, candidates must fill out an application form, which requires basic contact, personal and academic information. It is important to note that an application form needs to be filled out for each entrance test. Candidates must also check the eligibility requirements set by the authorities prior to applying for admission. If a candidate does not satisfy any requirement, they will not be suitable to be admitted.
  • Examine  All registered candidates are eligible to appear for the examination they have chosen. Authorities concerned issue admit cards without requiring candidates to be allowed to sit for the test. The admit card has all of the essential information related to the examination day, including the exam date and time and the exam center's duration.
  • Declaration of results and the preparation of the merit list The authorities announce the results. Based on the marks scored by candidates, a merit list is compiled. Candidates who have been shortlisted are invited to be part of the counseling process.
  • Seat allocation and counseling Candidates who meet the criteria must participate in counseling. Based on merit, seat availability, and preferred options, the authorities will grant admission to the M.Tech program by allocating seats.

M.Tech Entrance Exams

It is essential to understand the best method to apply for admission at any top university to study for a master's degree. There are specific entrance exams required to be admitted into the M.Tech program. Here are a few of the most sought-after entrance exams.

GATE is among the top entrance exams to enter the M.Tech program. It is a joint exam that the Indian Institute of Science conducts and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies (Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai (Madras), and Mumbai(Bombay). The exam is conducted in a computer-based method for three hours.
