Master of Surgery in General Surgery or MS General Surgery is a three-year postgraduate program in surgery. It is a mandatory course of study for students seeking a job as an ophthalmologist in India. The prerequisite for MS General Surgery is an MBBS degree, with a one-year minimum internship. Acceptance into the Master of Surgery General Surgery is determined by counseling after passing the entrance examinations. MS General Surgical procedures consist of much different expertise specific to the human anatomy. The specialization courses will undoubtedly contain information about the specific human body part to help candidates know the different ailments and surgical techniques to manage these conditions. This program helps students develop the abilities needed to be a surgeon. The topics covered during MS General Surgery are Basic Medical Sciences relevant to General Surgery, Neurosurgery, the ENT Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Cardiovascular to Recent Advances in General Surgery.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Following the eligibility requirements in the criteria for eligibility for Master of Surgery, only those who have completed MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine of Surgery, of Surgery) or Bachelor of Surgery) can apply to this course. The candidates must also have completed a year of compulsory rotational training to be eligible to take the Masters of Surgery (General Surgery) course.

  • The patient must have a medical license from MCI or any other state medical council.
  • Candidates must pass the Intermediate exams by completing Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics as their primary subjects. Intermediate students must pass the MBBS degree at an accredited university with an aggregate of 50+.

 

Admission Process:

Admission to Masters of Surgery based upon the entrance test and the candidate's MBBS and a one-year Internship. Many institutes recognize NEET-PG as the test that qualifies; however, only a few institutes, like AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER, can conduct an entrance test to be able to enter this Masters of Surgery course.

According to the regulations in the Medical Council of India (MCI) and as stated in the Postgraduate regulations 2000 issued by the Medical Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks required in the entrance exam to be considered eligible for admission into postgraduate programs will be 50 % in all candidates, as well for SC, ST, Category-I, and OBC. The eligibility must be 40 percent.
