Medical Microbiology encompasses and incorporates the fields of bacteriology, immunology, mycology, virology, and parasitology. The main link between them is their focus on the cause of infectious diseases and the reactions of the host to pathogens. With the development of new pathogens and the rise of antibiotic-resistant microbes, antimicrobial treatments are increasingly complicated and complex each day, as is an increasing burden from incurable illnesses. Specialized courses in medical microbiology aim to understand the etiologic microorganisms that cause diseases and the pathogenic processes that lead to clinically evident symptoms to the host. This is a crucial requirement for diagnosing, treating, and preventing all infectious diseases. It is vital for the pharma, biotech as well as academic fields.

Because pharmaceutical microbiology is vital for the manufacturing and production of biologics, drugs and devices, those working in these industries must possess an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the fundamentals of pharmaceutical microbiology methods, techniques, and methods to prevent expensive and life-threatening errors and results.

Since its beginnings, the basis of higher education in UPES has been to investigate and foster learning opportunities that are innovative and futuristic. This has led to continuous improvement in facilitating innovative and collaborative learning experiences for students by reorienting the courses and exploring online tools and open-source courseware. This has led to the possibility of unlimited learning and access to a wealth of information.

The new framework for the curriculum in UPES, ABLE (Academic Blueprint for Learning Excellence), is comprehensive in its overall design and is still focused on the student's unique needs to explore experiences, discover, investigate, and be challenged. Learning is divided into core subjects and core specialisms minors and exploratory subjects, as well as life-skills and signature subjects. The recently established School for Life offers the last three.

SFL (School for Living) is an integral component of the overall UPES student experience. It facilitates learning and education with an ideal blend of what students desire and what is expected of their future as leaders and global citizens.
