Indian Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, commonly known as IIIT Trichy, was established in 2016. IIIT Trichy has been designated as an Institute of National Importance. One of 19 IIITs was proposed as part of the nonprofit Public-Private Partnership (PPP) design developed by the Department of Higher Education of the MHRD.

IIIT Trichy offers BTech 4 year degrees covering Computer Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering. IIIT Trichy is located inside the NIT Trichy campus.
