Marine engineering is a study that focuses on the creation, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of equipment used in oceans as well as on vessels, ships, boats and more. It is a B.Tech course in Marine Engineering. The Marine Engineering course investigates the complex concepts and methods used in marine equipment operation and maintenance. The technical tasks that a marine engineer has include the maintenance and operation of the propulsion engines that drive the ship. Auxiliary engines to generate electricity boilers, refrigeration, air-conditioning equipment, a variety of pumps, mechanical and electrical accessories such as cargo gears and deck machines. These are required to ensure the manual and automated operations of various types and sizes for inland maritime and coastal vessels. The basic principle of M.R.E. uses the basic concepts of Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Metallurgical, instrumentation and automation engineering in extreme sea conditions.

B.Tech with a concentration in Marine Engineering at The Neotia University (T.N.U.) is a part of the syllabus which is higher than that of the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, covering the areas of naval engineering, ship construction equipment design and machine drawing of marine equipment in addition to other. Students must complete Internship Programs and industrial Training within their program and a certificate of acquirement at the end of their studies at various ports.

T.N.U. is also one of the only universities situated within Eastern India that can boast of a state-of-the-art ship-in-campus within the T.N.U. Campus due to its dimensions. The ship's structure that is in operation consists of an engine of 4000 BHP and an array of equipment that are on board, such as a Generator, Boiler for Oil-Water Separator, control Lab, Fire Control Lab as well as a Fire Control Lab. The unique infrastructure, created to comply with international standards, is home to original ship equipment that gives young Marine Engineers hands-on experience using various tools and a glimpse into the many aspects of an engineering career in the naval sector.

90% of our 2019 and 2020 batches of students who completed their Marine Engineering & Nautical Science studies have been placed with Destan Ship Management Private. Ltd., Apeejey Shipping, M.O.L., Mercator, ONGC& Ocean Sparkle.

Career Prospects

Marine Engineering graduates find challenging jobs in the shipping industry that are both national and international. Professionals in their early years begin working as Engine Cadets or Junior Engineers on ships with foreign flags. They earn a pay that is 2500 US dollars or Rs.1 801,000$/month. Junior Engineers have the potential to climb into the sought-after post of Chief Engineer with the highest amount of money.

20,000 US dollars, which is equivalent to Rs.15,00, 000/- per month, on clearing the competency-examinations conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, following the Convention of Merchant Shipping Rules 2014. Standards of Training for Certification and Watchkeeping (i.e. STCW 2010.) by the International Maritime Organization, i.e. the maritime agency unique to the United Nations.

Various shipping firms employ marine Engineer officers across the globe. Suppose you have earned higher-level certifications and experience on the ship. In that case, numerous opportunities open up for employment onshore in the various professions in the shipping industry, including Technical Superintendent in marine surveying companies, Maritime law and Insurance, Shipbroker and more.

A marine engineer can select from a range of vessels, depending on the degree of education and the engineer's experience. They are classified into foreign-bound dry vessels, foreign-moving tankers (oil, gas, chemical and others), dry Tanker vessels, passengers vessels that vessel offshore vessels and platforms, ports assisting vessels and vessels (Tugs barges or tugs. ).

With the possibility of working in Inland Waterways and Coastal Shipping and the recent Maritime India Summit 2021, Marine Engineering is a sunrise career choice. It has many opportunities both now and in the future. The increase in opportunities for employment in this sector has increased the appeal of working as a marine engineer. Furthermore, numerous manufacturing and manufacturing companies that produce shipping equipment and other equipment employ engineers within their manufacturing factories.

The ex-cadets from the program were placed aboard ships operated and owned by various shipping companies like Elegant Marine Services, Wallem Ship Management, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, M.S.C. Ship Management, United Ocean Ship Management, Gulf Energy Maritime Services (G.E.M.), Wilhelmsen Ship Management, M.M.S. Maritime (MMSI), Apeejay Shipping, Univan Ship Management, Searland Management Service, Herald Maritime Service, Dynacom Tankers. Etc.
