B.Sc, The Nautical Sciences, B.Sc, an interdisciplinary field that includes math, science, and physical education, covering the methods and techniques required to navigate and operate the ship securely from one port to another. The program is a mixture of practical and theoretical instruction. The technicalities and complexities of the work in this field are only achieved if one is equipped with the appropriate amount of expertise and knowledge in the area. It investigates the fundamentals and procedures for operating different sizes and types of vessels that are highly skilled and up-to-date in coastal waters, in inland regions, and even on high seas.
Bachelor of Nautical Science from The Neotia University (TNU) is a course that exceeds the requirements of the one set by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, which includes Navigation and cargo work as well as Marine Command, Environmental Studies, Voyage Plan, Collision, Maritime Law, Control System Seamanship of Ships, Shipping Stability, Collision Prevention and the Ship Operation Technology, propulsion, and meteorology to name just a few. Faculty members have years of experience in academia and industry and possess a thorough understanding of ships' responsibilities.
To help students become efficient officers on ships, the university has developed a unique method that helps build a solid knowledge base. After completing a three-year Nautical Science degree program, after one year in the role of a Deck Cadet, one can advance to Third Officer or Second Officer, then the Chief Officer, and finally the Captain of a vessel. As a Deck Officer, one can advance along the path of their choice by advancing in rank through regular competency tests conducted through the Directorate General of the Navy. Directorate General of
Shipping Government of India, in compliance with the Convention on Standards of Training for Certification and Watchkeeping (i.e., StCW) that is part of the International Maritime Organization, i.e., the maritime agency specialized by the United Nations. Alongside taking pre-requisite and modular courses, you must complete a minimum amount of time spent in the sea before taking the exam. At the position of Deck Cadet, there are significant increases in terms of remuneration with promotions. It can take about 8 years for Third Officers to be promoted to Captain, contingent on their capabilities and the opportunities. The Captains of the vessel are paid around 20,000 USD for LNG Ships, which is equivalent to Rs.15,00 1,000per month. This depends on the qualification they have passed in the appropriate exams.
It is typical for Deck Officers to leave service at sea well before the typical retirement age. They then can get ashore in a variety of positions working with shipping companies as well as other organizations that assist the shipping industry as well as other related industries. Other opportunities include being a Marine lawyer or a Shipbroker, Planner in Container companies, and Marine Pilot in various ports worldwide. Marine Superintendents from various shipping companies. Safety and quality inspectors from diverse shipping companies. Auditor of classification societies and companies. You can pursue further studies at Indian Maritime University, Chennai, or World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden, and research. You can get jobs at IMB and MSC from the International Maritime Organization, London (which is part of the UNO). Faculty at different colleges located in India, Gulf countries, UK, Singapore, Australia.
