Sustainable agriculture, as it relates to livelihood security, food security, and environmentally sustainable technology like soil conservation, sustainable natural resource management, biodiversity protection, are crucial to sustainable rural development. Indian agriculture and related activities have contributed to the green revolution, white revolution, yellow revolution, and blue revolution.
Agriculture and its related fields like fishing, animal husbandry, and fisheries provide many lucrative employment opportunities and contribute to the food security of an entire nation. In conjunction with horticulture, livestock husbandry, floriculture, dairy technology, and fisheries, agriculture provides an innovative framework to drive inclusive agriculture across the nation.
The Neotia University (TNU) is the First Private University in W.B. to offer an ICAR directed B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture 4-year course. Sixty acres of campus, including net house, poly house, aquaponics unit meteorological observatory, and laboratory facilities that have been developed for practical use (agronomy gardening, soil science breeding and genetics as well as entomology, agriculture extension, agriculture engineering, and more.) to carry out live projects and research opportunities for students. The university follows the strict ICAR course syllabus, as well as adequately maintained laboratories, tools, and course-specific documents as components of education of high quality. The program is based on studying by doing agricultural work, internships, Industrial training, and live project work. The workshop at the farm is equipped with tractors, power tillers, and other equipment to conduct mechanized farming. It also has practical classes. The Agriculture unit is building/developing a plant tissue culture lab, plant pathology lab, and food science lab. Geo-informatics and precision laboratory for agriculture, Sericulture Unit, Crop Cafeteria farmers' meeting point, and mulberry garden as well as a floriculture garden, vegetable garden, exotic and indigenous fruit orchards, and land modeling models, field lab biomass plant, compost, vermicomposting unit, an open and covered threshing floors, etc.

Graduates and postgraduates from the field of agriculture can find a variety of opportunities for research, teaching, and technology transfer within ICAR, State Agricultural Universities, State Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and NGOs. A Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts an annual examination to determine the eligibility for hiring in the Indian Forest Services. One of the minimum educational requirement is a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. Candidates who have completed their studies can apply for any job in the government that requires the graduation requirement as a prerequisite, including defense services, banks, etc. Candidates can also apply for state-level exams for positions such as assistant Agricultural Officers, Assistant Agricultural officers, the Seed Office, and many other positions. Additionally, there are many local, national, and international private business associations such as export houses, manufacturing houses, FPOs, and NGOs where agricultural professionals can get jobs. Therefore, B.Sc. in Agriculture provides a vast range of possibilities, especially in India, where a large portion of the population lives off agriculture. The top firms include Rallies India Ltd (TATA), Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd. Monsanto, National Agro Industries, Panseeds, Pepsico, Godrej Agrovet LTD, Ravi Hybrid Seeds Pvt Ltd.
Graduates can pursue further studies through Masters in Agriculture by taking different entrance exams for agriculture like ICAR PG and UPCATET, the CMAFFU, and many more. Colleges and universities hold entrance exams every year to enroll students into the P.G. programs. Students studying agricultural studies can decide to become entrepreneurs. There is much opportunity for students who graduate with a B.Sc in Agriculture. Education aims to develop individuals, which ultimately results in society at large.
