So you want to be a manager? Well, to become one you must start preparing for CAT, MAT and other similar exams. It takes dedication, determination, passion and utmost patience to secure good marks in your entrance exams. But apart from being studious there are certain qualities that differentiate a great manager from an average one. If you wish to build a great career as a manager, you better focus on building these character traits that we have discussed below:
Leadership
There is a lot of buzz surrounding this powerful term, ‘leadership’. It seems that anyone who knows this word understands the hidden meaning. Leadership is not about ordering and instructing others about what needs to be done. The true leader is the one who sets an example for his team by doing the hard work. First he gets a job completed and then challenges others to do it better. Your aim should be to become a valuable leader who understands his peers.
Communication
How can a leader inspire his team without knowing how to communicate effectively? If you wish to be a manager and excel in your MBA program, you better start off with improving your communication skills. Try to spend more time learning about public speaking. You might also want to speak more often, as practice makes you perfect in your art.
Time management
As mentioned before, a true leader sets example before his teammates. When you are managing a team or a larger organization, being able to mange time properly and effectively is considered to be a goldmine. Not everyone is well equipped with this particular skill. Try to value time and make sure that all the seconds in your work routine is properly allocated for the execution of certain duties. They say, if you can manage time and tame it for your need, it will be always available in abundance.
Confidence and decisiveness
At your MBA program, you must have come across multiple situations where you needed to take a decision. In those moments, maybe you weren’t comfortable with something or even not sure if the decision would pay off. However, your doubt wouldn’t solve the problem so you needed to decide anyway. In professional scenarios, you have to take decisions regularly. And these decisions aren’t related to the topic of your presentation. Your decisions would be religiously followed by your team and to make it strong, you should be confident. Confidence is the father of all successes. Be confident to meet success.
