Vizianagaram Medical College To Be Completed By March End, Academic Session For 150 MBBS Seats From Coming Year

Introduction

The much-awaited project of the Andhra Pradesh administration to establish a Medical Institute in Vizianagaram is hoped to be completed while reviewing the work advancement of the institute by the end of March, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare V Rajini.

The much-awaited project of the Andhra Pradesh administration to establish a Medical Institute in Vizianagaram is hoped to be completed while reviewing the work advancement of the institute by the end of March, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare V Rajini.

The statement was made when she visited the construction site of the medical institute to note the work advancement on Monday. Aside from announcing the expected date of the completion of the new medical institute, she also added that admissions and regular classes would commence in the coming academic year.

The academic session will start precisely after the completion of the medical institute with 150 seats for MBBS candidates, said Minister Rajini. She also mentioned that the progress of the work is going at a brisk pace.

Before the permission, a Government Order was issued by the AP government for the creation of 3,530 posts for five new medical colleges and teaching hospitals across the state.

The Chief Secretary of the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department issued this notification. The State Cabinet approved the creation of 3,530 posts for the 5 new medical colleges at the rate of 706 posts for each.

Per the Government Order, each of the five medical colleges was given 222 posts, and each affiliated teaching hospital got 484 posts in compliance with the NMC norms.

In May 2021, the state government approved Rs 500 crore for constructing the 500-bedded medical institute hospital on 70 acres of land at Garjularega, on the outskirts of Vizianagaram.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who virtually laid the project's foundation stone, said that the new hospital would provide treatment at par with corporate hospital standards.

Deputy Chief Minister Pamula Pushpa Srivani, Vizianagaram MP Bellana Chandrasekhar, MLAs Sambangi Venkata China Appala Naidu, Alajangi Jogarao, and MLC Penumatsa Suresh Babu thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning a medical college to Vizianagaram.
