Introduction

MCh in Neurosurgery is a specialty-level program for doctors that they do after completion of their pg medical degree program in India. The duration of this course is three years. It deals with the diagnosis and surgical cure of patients with injury or disorders/diseases of the brain, spinal column, spinal cord and peripheral nerves within all body parts.

The course is full-time and followed at various acknowledged medical colleges nationwide. Some top medical institutes offering this program include All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology and more.

Admission to this program is done via the NEET-SS Entrance exam conducted by the NBE, followed by counseling based on the examination scores that DGHS/MCC/State Authorities conduct.

The fee for pursuing this course varies from institute to institute and may range from Rs.7K to Rs. 30 lakhs per year.

After completing their respective program, doctors can join the job market or pursue certificate programs and Fellowship programs recognized by NMC and NBE. Aspirants can take decent jobs as Consultants, Senior residents, etc., with an approximate salary range of Rs 32 lakhs to Rs. 95 lakhs per year.

Admission Procedure

 

The admission procedure includes a few steps to be followed by the candidates for admission to MCh in Neurosurgery in Neurosurgery mentioned below:

  • The NEET-SS course is a national-level master’s level exam conducted by the NBE for admission to DM/MCh/DrNB Programs.
  • Qualifying Criteria-Candidates placed at the 50 percentile or above shall be announced qualified in the NEET-SS in their respective specialty.
  • The following Medical organizations are not covered under centralized admissions for DM/MCh program via NEET-SS:

1. AIIMS, New Delhi and other AIIMS

2. PGIMER, Chandigarh

3. JIPMER, Puducherry

4. NIMHANS, Bengaluru

  • Aspirants from all eligible feeder specialty subjects shall be needed to appear in the examination of the respective group if they are willing to opt for a super-specialty course in any of the super-specialty courses covered in that group.
  • Aspirants can opt to appear in the question papers of lots of groups for which his/her PG specialty qualification is suitable.
  • By appearing in the question paper of a group and qualifying for the exam
  • A student shall be eligible to exercise his/her options in the counseling only for those super-specialty subjects covered in the said group for which his/ her broad specialty is a qualified feeder qualification.
