Biosimilar is the branch of study that deals with research on drugs comparable to original drugs but are not alike. Biosimilars are not considered generic and do not have identical active pharmaceutical ingredients, but they are comparable to the original reference product regarding quality, safety, and effectiveness. Biosimilars can be considered alternative therapies; however, they are not generics. Biosimilar products' manufacturing process demands an extensive amount of testing and monitoring.

The course at UPES, B.Tech. Biotechnology students specializing in Biosimilars will be familiarized with the current regulations, manufacturing sciences, and distribution procedures of Biosimilar products across India and worldwide. Students will discover the controversy associated with Generic medicines and the need to develop Biosimilar products. Students will also be taught the process of discovering a drug in a laboratory and then tested in clinical trials before being introduced to the marketplace for commercialization.

This specialization is also able to offer students the chance to choose from two MBA specializations:

2. Biotechnology Product Management

Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks at Senior Secondary and Higher Secondary grades (X as well as XII) with Maths/Phys or Chemistry/Bio/BioTech and English as the major subject.
