Design academic fields in India have been doing really good since early years of 2000s. Before 2004 design studies was provided by a few government institutions. These institutes were mostly part of larger technical institutes. The only stand alone academic institute dedicated to design was the National Institute of Design in Ahmadabad.

Design education scenario in India

Actually the syllabus that is learned in the postgraduate and undergraduate classes is mostly similar. The reason for these is the eligibility criteria for postgraduate programmers are any kind of graduation, not design graduates only. Interested candidates can also get enrolled for online courses, 40 percent of total institutes of India provide online courses of design studies.

Career scope

In recent times the design industry has witnessed a boom in the field of job openings. One third of the students who completes courses on designing become entrepreneurs, a part of them joins different aspects of business in the designing field like, freelance designer or independent design consultant. Most of the graduate students go in the media industry or pursue master’s courses. There are huge amount of job opportunity in these fields, like transportation, entertainment, retail, consumer goods, telecommunication, manufacturing and publishing.
