NMC Issues Letter Of Intent To GMC Handwara, Udhampur For 100 MBBS Seats Each

Introduction

Intending to improve and upgrade the medical education sector in Jammu and Kashmir, The (NMC) National Medical Commission has decided to approve 100 MBBS seats each in two medical colleges, namely (GMC) Government Medical College Handwara and GMC Udhampur.

Intending to improve and upgrade the medical education sector in Jammu and Kashmir, The (NMC) National Medical Commission has decided to approve 100 MBBS seats each in two medical colleges, namely (GMC) Government Medical College Handwara and GMC Udhampur.

 

The NMC has issued a letter of Intent (LOI) for 100 medical seats each at these two medical colleges in the state. Therefore, this is the main reason for the medical candidates in the state to celebrate.

 

With this order, J&K will get 200 more MBBS seats from the upcoming educational session of 2023-24. This will further allow aspirants who want to get admitted to MBBS and build their careers in the medical field.

Two different communications were sent by NMC on Tuesday, aiming at undertakings from Government Medical c Handwara and Government Medical College Baramulla. Hence, two separate LOI has been published by the NMC.

 

Commenting on this, Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department Bhupinder Kumar appreciated the move and informed Greater Kashmir, "This is a great step, and it will enhance the health system in J&K."

An order issued by the Member/President (MARB)Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC mentioned, "I am directed to guide your application for Starting of New Medical at Government Medical Commenting on this, Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department Bhupinder Kumar appreciated the move and informed Greater Kashmir, "This is a great step, and it will enhance the health system in Jammu and Kashmir."

An order given by the Member/President, Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC mentioned, "I am directed to guide your application for Starting of New Medical at Government Medical Institute, Handwara under the University of Kashmir with an annual intake of 100 MBBS candidates u/s 26(1)(a)(b) and 28(1)(2) and section 61(2) of the NMC Act, 2019 for the academic year 2023-24."

 

"The current proposal has been agreed on the basis of an undertaking given by the Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Government of J&K vide letter No. HD/Pian/5/2022-02 dated 21 March 2023 that all the infrastructure facilities, teaching & non-teaching faculties will be provided in the Medical Institute by the Government of J&K  as per NMC standards," the order further reads.

As per the National Medical Commission, because of the above approval of 100 MBBS seats, the Commission has decided to obtain undertaking/essential documents for the issue of a Letter of Permission for starting/increasing seats for the academic year 2023-24.

 

"The candidate should provide all infrastructural facilities for teaching and non-teaching staff building, equipment and hospital facilities per National Medical Commission norms. No student should be admitted to the above courses till the formal permission of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board reads an order.
