This course is three years and deals with preventing and treating diseases and injuries of the hard tissues, the pulp of the tooth, and the associated peripheral lesions.
The course is a full-time program sought at various accredited institutes. Some of the top accredited institutes offering this course are Maulana Azad Dental College & Hospital, New Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Rohtak, and many more.

Admission to this course is made through the NEET-MDS Entrance exam conducted by the (NBEMS) National Board of Examinations in Medical Science, followed by counseling based on the exam scores that DGHS/DCI/State Authorities conduct. However, several colleges, such as AIIMS, conduct a university-level entrance exam to offer MDS admission. MDS Admission in the AIIMS, New Delhi, is based on the AIIMS INI CET. The (DCI) Dental Council of India controls dental education in the country.
The fee for following MDS varies from accredited hospital to hospital and may range from Rs. 20,000 to Rs.27 lakhs per year.
After completing their respective course, doctors can join the job market or pursue Fellowship programs recognized by DCI. Candidates can work as dentists in government or private hospitals or nursing homes or start their dental clinic. The average starting salary is around Rs. 2.4 lakhs to Rs. 19 lakhs per annum (approx).

MDS is a national-level postgraduate examination held by the NBE for admission to MDS courses in recognized Dental Colleges/ Deemed Universities.
The Dental Council of India chooses these eligibility criteria with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The basic needs to appear for NEET MDS can be checked below:-
· Students must hold a BDS degree from an acknowledged institute to fulfill NEET MDS eligibility criteria 2023.
· Provisional/permanent registration with State Dental Council or DCI by July 31, 2023.
· Completing a one-year compulsory rotatory internship by July 31 of the academic year a candidate is seeking admission is mandatory.
